Philadelphia, PA – June 28, 2011 – Philadelphia Flyers prospects take a break from the ice to participate in “Trial on the Isle,” a mini-triathlon followed by a charity softball game on Friday, July 8 in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. All proceeds benefit Flyers Charities, a division of the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation with a donation going to American Legion Post #331 in Stone Harbor.
The annual conditioning day is part of a mini-camp for the Flyers prospects. The mini-triathlon begins with a bike ride from the corner of 96th Street and 2nd Avenue to the Yacht Club beginning at 10 a.m. Following the bike ride, they will take off in a paddle boat obstacle course at Snug Harbor Basin (89th and Sunset Ave). The last stretch of the race includes a run from 87th Street, over the dunes to the finish line at 96th Street.
Some of the Flyers prospects will then lead local kids in a Hooked on Hockey clinic in the Stone Harbor Elementary School parking lot (Third Ave and 93/94th Streets, Stone Harbor) from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m.
Following the clinic, the Flyers prospects will be available for autographs in the Cafasportsatorium of Stone Harbor Elementary School from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The admission fee is a $10 donation to Flyers Charities and includes a team photo of all of the Flyers prospects. All fans will also have the opportunity to purchase exclusive Flyers merchandise.
The all-day event will end with a charity softball game, Flyers prospects against the Stone Harbor Stars, at 5 p.m. at the 80th Street baseball field. Flyers color analyst Steve Coates will emcee the game. Fans are more than welcome to attend and cheer on the players. The event will also include exclusive raffles and auction items for charity.
