Flyers Wives Fight for Lives : Carnival

Flyers Fans Pack Wachovia Center for 33rd Flyers Wives Carnival
By: Casey McCrudden

More than 7,000 fans attended the Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival on Sunday, January 10 at the Wachovia Center.  As Comcast-Spectacor Foundation's largest fundraising event, the Carnival has raised and donated nearly $23 million back into the community over the past 33 years.  The money raised benefits local non-profit organizations with a focus on local youth and important healthcare initiatives.  Past beneficiaries include, but are not limited to, Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis & Education Center, Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation, YMCA, Philadelphia Youth Network, Firefly Literacy Fund, Virtua Foundation, Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse, Foundation for Melanoma Research, and Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

Fans had the opportunity to meet and take pictures with their favorite Flyers players, play state of the art games and activities, such as Wii Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Boxing, Shot-On-Goal, Carnival games, Dunk Tank, etc. and have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup. Flyers alumni Bob Clarke, Bob “The Hound” Kelly, Bernie Parent, Don Saleski, Dave Schultz, Joe Watson and others were signing autographs in Alumni Row.

Auction items, which are available online at auction.nhl.com, include exclusive experiences, such as the opportunity to "Travel with the Team" that includes roundtrip travel on the Flyers charter plane to an away game, hotel accommodations and tickets to the away game.

Other auction items also available include floor seats to a Sixers game with Scott Hartnell and Arron Asham and lunch at Capital Grille with Lauren and Chris Pronger.
