34th Flyers Wives Carnival Is Another Success

By: Kris Utt

Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 27 the lines started to form outside the Wells Fargo Center as more than 9,000 fans swarmed to support their beloved Flyers and their biggest charity event of the year, the annual Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival.  The 34th installment of the tradition is believed to have raised a whooping $1 million to be added to it's nearly $24 million raised and donated to local charities over its history.  The money raised benefits local non-profit organizations with a focus on area youth and important healthcare initiatives.  Past beneficiaries include, but are not limited to, Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse, Virtua Foundation, Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis & Education Center, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, PAWS, and United Way.

Fans not only got the opportunity to meet and take pictures with their favorite Flyers players, but they also got to play state of the art video games, such as Wii Boxing and the new X-Box Kinect and PlayStation Move systems. Other events included taking a Shot-On-Goal against a Flyers Goaltender, a picture with the legendary Stanley Cup, the Dunk Tank, and various other Carnival games. Quite possiblely the most popular attraction at the Carnival though was Alumni Row, which featured Flyer greats such as Bob Clarke, Bernie Parent, Bill Barber, Dave Shultz, Bob Kelly, Joe Watson and others.

Still looking to spend more time you’re your favorite Flyers? Check out some of our amazing experiences that are currently up for auction online at auction.nhl.com.
